OFFICER Leadership Bootcamp

As a student council or senate advisor, you are busy from the day you start school with planning for homecoming and other exciting events. Time for training your officers and executive team is almost non-existent, so we provide student officers with the opportunity to become more effective leaders through our leadership bootcamp sessions.

This one-day training for your student council officers and executive board uses interactive lessons to teach students how to be successful officers and leaders. Yes, this IS for middle school students, too!

Each school may register four to seven officers or more if applicable. Lunch will be provided. Registration is $15 per person but will not exceed $100 per school. Students can attend any training at the five districts in case a date in another district works better. If fewer than four schools register for a specific district, that training will be canceled.

Bootcamp Dates & Locations

  • September 2 – Southeast District at Centerville High School
  • September 8 – Central District at ADM High School
  • September 9 – Southwest District at Norwalk High School
  • September 23 – Northwest District at MVAOCOU
  • September 30 – Northeast District at Mason City High School

Leadership Bootcamp will start at 9:30 a.m. and finish by 2:30 p.m. at each district.

**Remember, you can attend any of these in any district, if the dates or places work out better for you.

Our leadership conference will be held Sunday and Monday, October 25-26, 2026 at IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY in Ames. Our keynote speaker will be A’ric Jackson! His mission is to Teach, Inspire, and Encourage all those who hear him, and to take the challenge of helping others pursue their goals and dreams. He is amazing!

We will need many presenters for breakout sessions. If you have a project or idea you would like to share, please complete the form below. Registration form will be out in September, as will hotels offering discounts for our conference.

Administrator Of The Year

Applications are now open for administrator of the year. Each fall at state conference, IAStuCo recognizes one high school administrator and one middle school administrator for the Administrator of the Year award. A supportive administrative leader is key to the success for Student Councils. This award doesn’t mean that they always say “Yes” to every idea that your students come up with, but it does mean that they listen to student voice and also try and help develop the student leaders. If you have one of these administrators, you can nominate them by sending me an email by July 30that gilek@oskycsd.org.

State Project

During the advisor’s conference in April, the student state officers worked on their state project idea. They are happy to announce the name is “From Lattes to Lungs, the Spectrum of Addiction.” The mission is “To combat all forms of addiction in schools and communities through awareness, education, and action.” You are welcome to start thinking about what you want to do, but know there will be more information shared in the next few months.
