Welcome Note
Welcome to advisor’s corner! As a student council advisor, you make a difference in the lives of your students, your school and your community. By becoming involved at the state level, you can also make a difference in Iowa.
Leadership opportunities are numerous:
- Attend a fall conference with your students
- Present a workshop
- Become a facilitator
- Encourage your student council members to attend conference and workshop sessions to soak up all the great ideas
IAStuCo provides an annual advisor’s conference in the spring. It’s a fantastic opportunity to network with advisors, share ideas, and become rejuvenated for the end of the school year.

Valley and Northwest Student Council Exchange
An article detailing an exchange between two high school student councils, focusing on peer shadowing, comparing event planning strategies, and building inter-school camaraderie. A student council exchange is a collaborative program where student council members from different schools, districts, or states visit one another to share best practices, observe leadership styles, and experience different campus cultures. During an exchange, student leaders participate in joint meetings, attend workshops, shadow peer officers, and discuss common challenges.
